The Seychelles is traditionally a honeymooners paradise with spectacular beaches and beautiful surroundings. A vast living world lies just beneath the turquoise waters which is ideal for diving and snorkelling. There are also some great opportunities for watching birds and giant tortoises in their natural habitat. Although there are many luxurious complexes there are some affordable self catering facilities and guest houses which make the Seychelles a more affordable option.
Seychelles WeatherThe climate in the Seychelles is good pretty much all year round where the temperature ranges from 75ºF (24ºC) to 89ºF (32ºC) throughout the year. July and August are the driest months, and January is the wettest; with the most mountainous islands of Mahe and Silhouette getting the highest rainfall, though even during the wetter months there is usually around 6 hours of sunshine a day.
Seychelles seasons are defined by the trade winds. From October to April the warmer, wetter airstream from the northwest is present and from May to September the southeast trades bring in cooler, drier weather. The transition periods; March to April and October to November, are normally hot with slight breezes and calm seas.
If you're visiting Seychelles for surfing or windsurfing then May to September is the best time to go, diving is great all year but the best visibility is in April and October, and Turtle egg-laying season is from October to February, with eggs hatching in around two months.
Seychelles Things to See and DoSeychelles is well known for having some of the best beaches in the world, with powder soft sand and turquoise waters it really is paradise. Hop between the many islands and sample a range of accommodation from sumptuous 5 star resorts to rustic island lodges and cosy beachside bungalows. Although the beaches here are the main attraction there are plenty of other things to see and do.
If you have a spare couple of hours, come and explore the Seychelles tiny capital, Victoria. There is the Natural History Museum and the replica of London's Little Ben which is infact a miniature of Big Ben and lots of little shops to explore. Saturday mornings can become quite busy when the market comes to town and it's a great opportunity to get some lovely fresh fruit, vegetables and fish.
Aride Island is home to one of the finest tropical island nature reserves in the world. There are more birds of more species here than on the other islands put together, so make sure you bring your binoculars to catch a glimpse of rare species such as the magpie robin, fodie and blue pigeon.
The island of Mahe is a great spot for deep-water diving, with so many large and tropical fish it really is an amazing place. You may also be lucky enough to spot white tip reef sharks, grey stingrays and many more beautiful sea creatures. Mahe is also home to the botanical gardens which is a great representation of the many plant species that can be found all over the Seychelles. Another must do whilst in Mahe is a visit to the tea factory. The factory is responsible for growing and manufacturing all the tea in the Seychelles and you can also enjoy some of the best views of the western slopes of Mahe from it's great viewing points.
Due to the climate in the Seychelles, there are many outdoor activities on offer, from horse riding to hill walking and golf to sailing, there is an activity for everyone to enjoy. With so many islands to explore, it is certainly worth taking some time to hop between them to see what they have to offer.
Seychelles DiningThe Seychelles offer tourists a typical Creole cuisine with a slight French influence to it. Grilled fish and octopus is popular and comes in a sauce with chillies, garlic and ginger as well as a variety of different curries. The cuisine here has been influenced by Chinese, Indian and African tastes. Spices are very important and need to be blended right to get the best taste and flavour. Coconut milk is also a big hit in the Seychelles, mainly used in curries. La Daube is made from breadfruit, bananas, yams and cassavas and is a popular delicacy.
Dining in Seychelles is a 5 star experience. You can expect nothing less than the best in flavours, service and quality of foods. You can dine in the luxury 5 star restaurants or the little snack bars situated around the island.
