THE RACE
The traditional European season opener is always
eagerly awaited as it often provides a pointer to whom the real
championship contenders are likely to be. For the past four years the
Schumacher brothers have dominated the race with Michael taking the
honours last time around. The first San Marino Grand Prix was held at
Imola in 1979 with the first championship race won by Niki Lauda in
1980. Imola has seen its fair share of dramas with perhaps the most
remembered being the tragic death of the late, great Ayrton Senna in
1994.
Our base for this year's tour is the stunning medieval city of Bologna,
which is located a little over one hour from Imola race circuit and only
20 minutes from the international airport.

These tours are based in Bologna using scheduled flights from
London Gatwick. Bologna is a fascinating town to visit even
without a Grand Prix. This is Italy in all it's glory: narrow
cobblestone streets, ancient churches, massive palaces, medieval
towers, famous arcades but with modern hotels and sophisticated
restaurants.
There are a number of excellent grandstands and the circuit is
lush and undulating offering similar vantage points to Spa-Francorchamps.
Also, the roving grandstand tickets on Friday and Saturday offer
excellent value allowing you to experience a number of different
grandstands.

We recommend that you buy only grandstand tickets otherwise you may not see very much due to the high advertising boards around the track.
The TOSA grandstand area provides a fantastic view of the hairpin bend which gives you a chance to see the cars slow down after the mad dash through the start finish, before climbing up the hill.
The main grandstands are located in the centre of the track with easy access to refreshments, Toilets. However, the TOSA stand gives you a better view of the cars slowing for the hairpin corner before the steep climb up the hill
