Malaysia and Kuala Lumpur

Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur contains many ultra modern buildings and is often the only part of Malaysia that many visitors see as they pass through for a few days, to take in the Gran Prix, shops and fantastic nightlife.

The real Malaysia is country of outstanding natural beauty which includes a range of luxury beach resorts and idyllic islands such as Langkawi.

In addition to this, you can experience spectacular natural wonders, exotic animals in the lush rainforest of Sabah and Sawarak, the two Malaysian states on the North West side of the island of Borneo.

Kuala Lumpur, the Malaysian capital, is one of Asia's most vibrant cities, with a futuristic sykline of ultra modern buildings.

Previously a British colony, the friendly multi-racial population gives K. L. a very oriental atmosphere.

The magnificent Petronas Towers, the world’s tallest structure, stands alongside modern skyscrapers, Indian and Chinese temples, colonial buildings and mosques in a unique blend of cultures and traditions.

Formula One has rapidly established itself in South East Asia and the Sepang circuit, 45 minutes drive from KL, has set the standard for all new venues, such as China and Bahrain.

Excellent hotels, exceptional value for money and guaranteed sunshine - what more could you ask for?

KL is an easy city to get around, providing that you do not walk.
It is geared up for motor vehicles.

K. L. Nightlife

Most tourists head for the Golden Triangle (between Jalan Bukit Bintang, Jalan sultan Ismail and Jalan Imbi) particularly Bintang Walk.

The trendiest place is Bangsar - two or three blocks of wall to wall discos and pubs.

The Roof, Finnegans and Dinty's pub are all popular.

K. L. Shopping

Sale carnivals in March, August and December with prices reduced by up to 70%

Most of the giant shopping malls, including Lot 10, Imbi Plaza, Bukit Bintang Plaza and Sungai Wang can be found in the Golden Triangle (between Jalan Bukit Bintang, Jalan sultan Ismail and Jalan Imbi)

Try Jalan Petaling in Chinatown - stalls selling designer fake hanbages, belts and watches

Food & Drink

Malaysian food is a mixture of Malay, Indian and Chinese cusine. In one of the many places which serve a buffet, you can sample dishes such as "nasi lemak" -(rice cooked in coconut milk and flavoured with cloves and pandenleaves).

"Satay" - (grilled sticks of meat served with penut sauce).

"Rendang" - (meat cooked in coconut milk, chilli and onions).

For a special dining treat try Vertigo - A meal in the revolving restaurant at the top of the 421 metre high Petronas tower.

For something fast and cheap try "Mee Goreng" - (Fried Noodles) or "Nasi Goreng" - (Fried Rice) or "Roti Canal" - (Malasian bread served with dhal).

Public Transport

The public transport system within KL is speedy, comfortable and uncomplicated with the fast and regular services provided by Light Rail(LRT) and the Monorail(PRT)
.
Other than the station, the major transport hub in KL is Puduraya bus station, on the eastern edge of the central district.

Taxis are also a cheap alternative to public transport.
